Children in K-2 should practice reading daily and be read to throughout the summer. During the holidays, we strongly recommend children in grades 3-6 read one English novel and one French novel. To build a love of reading. a child should be involved in choosing books that interest them and match their ability. The books on these lists have been carefully selected by the teachers and the librarian to engage students and help them see themselves as readers.
Les enfants de la maternelle à la deuxième année doivent s'entraîner à lire tous les jours et se faire lire tout au long de l'été. Pendant les vacances, nous recommandons vivement aux enfants des classes 3 à 6 de lire un roman anglais et un roman français. Pour développer l'amour de la lecture, l'enfant doit participer au choix des livres qui l'intéressent et qui correspondent à ses capacités. Les livres figurant sur ces listes ont été soigneusement sélectionnés par les enseignants et la bibliothécaire afin d'intéresser les élèves et de les aider à se considérer comme des lecteurs.

Your knowledge and understanding of the summer reading texts will be assessed at the beginning of the school year to establish a baseline of your level in the competencies of reading, writing and talking. Therefore, as you read the books, pay particular attention to the conventions of the genre, e.g., plot, structure, setting, characterization and theme.
We encourage you to read a mixture of fiction and non-fiction, and to read as much as possible!

You are required to read and annotate one of the titles on this list. You will be writing an English diagnostic essay on one of the titles at the beginning of the Pre-University year in early September; therefore, as you read the book, pay particular attention to the conventions of genre, e.g., plot, structure, setting, characterization, and theme.
You are required to read and annotate Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary translated by Geoffrey Wall (ISBN-13: 978-0140449129), with a focus on acquiring a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the novel while developing a keen awareness of Flaubert’s authorial choices.
